  • This Week -- Honoring/Remembering Veterans...and my cousin...

b194642761   In memory of my cousin, Stephen White. My cousin, a member of the elite division 82nd Airborne fought and survived battles in the Honduras (Operation GOLDEN PHEASANT in 1988), in Panama (Operation JUST CAUSE in 1989), the Gulf War, and three extended tours in Afghanistan. He fought courageously and was even awarded the bronze star (The Bronze Star is awarded to U.S. service members who distinguish themselves by heroic, meritorious achievement or service, while engaging in military operations against any armed adversary.  It’s the nation’s fourth highest combat decoration). But when he returned from this last tour in Afghanistan, he came back to the battle of post-war stress … and despite the attempts of family and friends to get him to get help, he lost… first, he lost his business…then he lost his marriage…and this past summer, he lost his life… he lost the battle with meth amphetamines.

Please honor veterans. Please pray for the families and friends of these men who serve, and live, and die.

    Thank you, Laurie

  • The true and lasting song...

     IMG_1220

"Though we would praise Him with our song, His Word alone is the cause of our sure confidence. The song may brighten the day's work, and lighten the very night, but nothing short of the Word of the Lord stands strong through everything. - Amy Carmichael"

Though we would praise Him with our song -- the true and lasting song is His Song in His Word. I sing the power of Jesus' Name -- I sing the power of The Word -- I desire my life's song to be His Word -- His Word that writes the chorus of my actions, the refrain after each thought-stanza, the chords of love played quietly or loudly, but always in the background.

  • A silhouette...

    shorebirds

"Be content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you." - Hebrews 13:5

Contentment -- a simple existence outlined and defined by my Lord's presence.

A silhouette in His light -- still life -- waiting to be used -- effective when used -- still -- at rest when not in use --

Contentment -- a still life painted by His hand -- with the colors of His presence -- a silhouette of His servant --

Contentment -- listening -- willing -- obedient to His purpose -- all else is shadow.

  • Small steps...

    IMG_1197b

Today I see the small steps -- the step to meet with a teacher, the step to highlight, the step to request a peer tutor. These small steps, so few, may lead to the next step and the next, and therefore, I must recognize and value them. Each struggling student who takes a step is to be encouraged -- and I cannot let any of us get mired in the journey by entrapping our feet in the mud of "but why don't you..." or "still you need to..."

Today I see the small steps -- the step to speak with gentleness, the step to affirm first, the step to value all steps.
